League of Women Voters Completes Study on Sustainable Communities
The definition of a Sustainable Community for the League's study purpose is as follows:
A community which gives top priority to quality of life, economic vitality and resource conservation while balancing population, consumption of resources, and pollution with the "carrying capacity" of the region.

Members of the League are now developing strategies to implement the study. Membership in the League includes both female and male from various segments of our society. If you would like to become involved in the LWV's work on sustainability, contact Ruth Bamberger, coordinator, at 873-7226 or e-mail rbamberg@drury.edu .

This study will be the topic of Dr. Bamberger's presentation at the April 16th meeting of the 65809 Community Association. See meeting announcement for more details. Everyone is welcome!

City of Springfield Creates new Storm Water Division Service
In response to recent years of increasing floods in various sections of Springfield, the City has formed a new service division that will be called Storm Water Services Division within the Public Works Department. This service is expected to enhance the City's role in storm water management. If you have any questions regarding the Storm Water Management Program, call Todd Wagner, Principal Storm Water Engineer at 864-1901.

State of the Environment: Springfield-Greene County, Missouri 2002
The final report of this assessment of the environment of Springfield and Greene County done by the Greene County Health Department and the Environmental Collaborative of the Community Partnership of the Ozarks has been released for public reading. For a brief description of this work, see the Meeting Notes for our February meeting at this web site. For more information or a copy of this document, contact Barbara Lucks, Environmental Collaborative Chair at (417- 864-2001 or Clay Goddard, Springfield/Greene County Health Department at (417) 864-1408. Barbara will review the data from this study at the June 18th 65809 Community Association meeting.

Business Signs and Bill Boards
City Council held a public hearing on changes to the land use ordinance, business signs section at the April 8th meeting. This section also covers bill boards. If you have any comments to share with you City Council representative, now is the time to contact him or her. Refer to Council Bill 2002-093. For details of this bill go to the Springfield City Gov. Web page and search for the ordinance by number or look for the Council Agenda link.
